The high school football programs of Century and Bismarck are one win away from a trip to the Dakota Bowl.
Last Friday night, the Century football team survived a scare against Fargo Davies thanks to the foot of Austin Underhill.
That game is all behind the Patriots now.
The defending state champions are focused on beating Minot this week. Earlier this season, Century put the Magicians over their knee in a 38-7 win… but with Minot playing carefree as the three seed that’s concern for the top seeded Patriots.
“If you are the team that is the lower standing,” Century running back Nathan Kraft said, “you always have nothing to lose. So you always play a little different, a little harder. So we are definitely preparing for that. But I think our game plan is going to be the same going in.”
On Friday, Century tries for their third straight trip to the Dakota Bowl at the Community Bowl at 7 p.m.
Bismarck High and an easier time in their opening round matchup. The Demons won 42-15 over Fargo South.
Bismarck may have lost their running back, Jalen Sprecher, who was injured in the quarterfinal win. This week, Bismarck plays West Fargo. The Packers blew out the Demons 41-0 earlier this season and that’s fresh in the minds of Bismarck.
“One thing we have to understand is that they are going to come at us,” head coach Mark Gibson said. “Number two, if you’re going to play scared of somebody, then those things are going to happen.”
The Demons game at the No. 1 ranked team in the state is Friday at 7 p.m.
