New Salem and Shiloh Christian prepare for quarterfinal playoff games in 9-Man football on Oct. 28.
New Salem-Almont-Glen Ullin
Many thought after losing in the state championship game last year that New Salem-Almont-Glen Ullin would be rebuilding, but they are just reloading.
For the second straight year, the Holstiens won Region 5.
Now they are two wins away from make it back to the Dakota Bowl.
This week, the Holsteins face North Prairie, a team that put up 64 points in their last playoff contest.
New Salem arrived at this point by grounding and pounding and don’t expect them to change now.
“Every week we are working hard on our run offense and making sure that is prepared for their defensive scheme,” coach Steve Kleinjan, “and that’s plain and simple.”
New Salem hosts North Prairie at 2 p.m.
New Salem could have a rematch with Shiloh Christian, if the Skyhawks can defeat Beach.
On September 15, Shiloh used a strong fourth quarter to earn a 22-16 win.
Coach Funnon Barker said the team gave Beach best shot in that first meeting. Coach also sees another close game coming.
“We played a good game,” Coach Funnon Barker said, “but they played a good game as well. Like I said, both teams are here for a reason. We expect another great game from them and we’re going to have to be ready.”
This game is set to kick off at 2 p.m. at Miller Field.
