HS FBall: New Salem, Shiloh Christian rematch to decide finals spot

National Sports

Shiloh Christian and New Salem-Almont-Glen Ullin will meet in a rematch of the 9-Man Region 5 championship for a spot in the Dakota Bowl.

New Salem is looking for their second straight Dakota Bowl berth.

In the quarterfinals, the Holsteins shut out North Prairie in the second half as they rolled to a 38-18 win. Now, New Salem faces a familiar foe in Shiloh Christian.

“They run the ball well.” head coach Steve Kleinjan said. “They throw the ball well. There’s a lot of stuff that we have to focus in on in getting ready for them. We’ve got to try to slow them down a little bit.”

On the other side, Shiloh Christian is looking for a little revenge from the Region 5 title tilt.

The Skyhawks were at home and lost a heart breaker, 36-34, because of that loss Shiloh will be on the road for Saturday’s game.

Coach Funnon Barker expects both teams to stick to their bread and butter.

“Their schemes are good and they work,” head coach Funnon Barker said. “They fit their kids. I don’t expect major differences or changes from either team but there’s always a couple of wrinkles teams throw at you.”

The contest starts at 2 p.m. in New Salem.
