St. Mary’s football defeated Devils Lake 35-0 at the Bowl to remain unbeaten, while Legacy suffered its first loss of the season to West Fargo at the Sanford Sports Complex Saturday night.

At the Bowl, the Saints led 14-0 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, St. Mary’s quarterback Cole Gendreau aired it out deep down the field right into the hands of Hudson Bradley for a touchdown to make it 21-0.

Later in the quarter, Gendreau zipped a throw from the one-yard line for his second TD of the quarter. That put the Saints up 28-0, and the Saints added one more score to finalize the 35-0 win. It’s the Saints’ fourth-straight shutout win.

Legacy did not have a similar result in their game against top team West Fargo.

The Packers led 13-0 after the first quarter, and they kept marching down the field to start the second quarter. After a large gain from running back Jared Franek put the Packers in the red zone, quarterback Andy Gravdahl threw the flat route to receiver Jacob Faircloth, who slipped a defender and found the end zone to put West Fargo up 19-0.

Later in the quarter, the Packers found themselves backed up against their own goal line. Gravdahl took the snap and could not find an open man downfield, and Kyle Niemeyer was able to chase him down and earn the sack.

With a minute left in the half, Legacy attempted to put some points up before the break. Quarterback Jason Hoekstra stepped up in the pocket and threw a deep pass down the sideline, but cornerback Dirus Suah swatted the pass away to stall Legacy’s drive.

West Fargo went on to win 39-7.
