Legacy girls’ soccer made program history Thursday when it won a match for the first time ever.
Skye Hertel scored a goal in the second half to secure a 1-0 win over Mandan.
As the clock expired, the Legacy bench erupted into cheers and stormed the field.
Following the historic win for Legacy came a match between second-place St. Mary’s and third-place Century.
Neither team could open the scoring in the first half, but it wasn’t due to a lack of chances.
Century’s Rowyn Schollmeyer came the closest to scoring for the Patriots when she fired a first-touch shot from 25 yards out, but goalkeeper Hallie Schweitzer tipped the ball over the crossbar for the save.
St. Mary’s best first half chance came after Century’s Sophia Moser was called for a hand ball in the box. Mariann Senftner stepped up to take the penalty, but her shot missed the net completely.
Century found its offense in the second half. Kate Weigum scored two goals, and Aili Osmond added a third as the Patriots went on to win 3-0.
