In Class B softball, this weekend teams from the West and East will meet in the first-ever Squirrel Softball East-West Invitational.
Twelve teams, including undefeated Heart River, will face off at the Central Cass turf softball and football fields.
East and West teams rarely play each other during the regular season.
Heart River believes the invitational is a very positive opportunity, not just for them, but for the whole state.
“The West has always been behind, as far as the East,” Heart River head coach Kendra Schillo said. “They started teams earlier and things like that, so the West has been playing catch-up. I think we’re there. I think we’ve finally caught up.”
Nine of the top 10 teams from the preseason poll will be competing in this invitational, which begins Friday at 2 p.m.
Heart River’s first game will be at 6 against Hillsboro-Central Valley.
