At the high school level, the Mandan Braves are looking to a freshman in the circle as the ace pitcher this season.
Andi Borchers steps in as the Game 1 starter for Mandan. Borchers replaces Sierra Bulter, who was a four-year starting pitcher.
Borchers serves as a dual threat because she can also hit. She has recorded multi-hit games on more than one occasion this year, but the Braves need Borchers to perform like an upperclassman in the circle even though she is only a freshman.
“She’s going to get most of the Game 1 nods,” head coach Ryne Jungling said. “She pitched really well in Watford City and threw strikes. That’s what we talk about, if we can just throw strikes, it gives ourselves a chance to win.”
On Friday, Mandan travels to Minot for a game against the defending state champs.
