Three come-from-behind wins highlighted Day 1 of 2018 West Region Girl’s Softball tournament on May 24 at Fort Lincoln Softball Field in Mandan.
In the first game, Dickinson trailed Legacy 4-0 after the the first inning. In the third inning, Dickinson scored seven runs capped off by Kennedy Kuntz’s three-run home run. Legacy battled back to tie the game at 12 in the bottom of the seventh. Dickinson’s Ali Lafond hit a walkoff single to win the game, 13-12.
In the second game, Jamestown and Bismarck faced off. Jamestown built a 5-1 lead early in the game. The Demons used a series of Jamestown errors and hits to take control of the game. Bismarck advances to the semifinals with a 19-14 victory.
Bismarck will play Dickinson in the first semifinal game.
The third game was one-sided. Minot defeated Williston, 15-1. Marisa Andrysiak and Rylee Terrel almost threw a combined no-hitter. The duo pitched 4 2/3 innings of no-hit ball. Williston registered a hit with two outs in the fifth inning.
In the last game of night, Mandan looked to upset Century. The Braves were off to a good start with a 5-1 lead in through two innings. However, the Patriots hung an eight-spot on the board in the bottom of the third. The inning was highlighted by an Amanda Baerlocher three-run home run. Century won in six innings, 18-8.
Century will face Minot in the second semifinal game.
