This time last year, Legacy’s Michael Janes was falling short of a state singles title in the championship match. Today he found himself in that championship once again, only this time, determined to write a different ending.
He did just that as Janes took down Grand Forks Central’s Gary Wu in three sets to win the state singles championship.
Janes dropped the first set to Wu but rallied back to win the last two sets convincingly.
“It just feels great. I’ve worked so hard for this,” Janes said after the match. “It’s my senior year. I knew I had to make it happen this year, so with all the hard work I did before, it really paid off. That’s for sure.”
