HS Wrestling: Bismarck High looks to sweep state tournament, again

In high school wrestling, the expectations are so high at Bismarck High that if the team does not win either the team dual or individual team state title, this season is considered a failure.

This year is no different. Bismarck High will go into the tournament ranked No. 1 in the state, but this season might be tougher than previous years.

A look at the rankings by weight class reveals that in six of the 14 divisions, the Demons do not have a player in the top six.

On the individual side, Bismarck will send 14 kids to the tournament, which is tied for third most.

As always, the Demons are optimistic about the chances of sweeping the state tournament.

“I think they are equally as challenging,” co-head coach Mark Lardy said, “they are just different pieces to the puzzle. The dual side, I would say, I’m a little more concerned about. The individual side things spread themselves out with the different teams in the mix.”

In the first round of the team dual championship, Bismarck High will face Fargo Davies on Thursday at 11 a.m. The Individual side starts Friday.
