Legion Ball: Govs ready for 2018 season

National Sports

The Bismarck Governors open the season tomorrow and once again the expectations are high.

Last season, the Govs went 26-15 overall and 11-7 in conference play. At the 2017 state tournament, Bismarck finished third. This season the Govs return an experienced group that includes four players who have college experience, so the team is ready to start the season.

“Just getting our [fundamentals] back down and get back that team chemistry,” shortstop Dawson Weikum said. “That’s really important for a good team to have good team chemistry. Especially from the older guys just stepping up and being leaders. The guys coming back from college that’s impressed me.”

On Friday, the Bismarck Governors open their season with a double header in Mandan. First, they play Pierre Post 8 followed by Rapid City Post 320.
