Legion Ball: Mandan Chiefs to play in Gopher Classic for first time over two decades

National Sports

On July 13, The Mandan Chiefs will play their first game in one of the premier Legion baseball tournaments in the country.

For the first time in over 20 years, Mandan is participating in the Jim Hanus Gopher Classic. This is the Largest US Legion tournament.

The Chiefs will be one of the 96 teams in the field. Mandan will be in the Edina Pool, where they will play Creighton Prep, a team that finished second in the American Legion World Series last year.

“We’re excited about the opportunity,” head coach Jake Kincaid said. “We are going to use it as a measuring stick and look at some programs that are going to show you where you want to get to in the future.”

The Gopher Classic runs July 13 through July 15.
