Local Sports

The St. Mary’s football team lost their first state title game as member of Class AA against Fargo Shanley at the Dakota Bowl on Nov. 9.

St. Mary’s scored the first 14 points, but then surrender the next 28 to fall behind 28-14 after three quarters.

St. Mary’s brought the game within a score on Drew Dowsh touchdown run. However, the Saints could not put the ball in the end zone to tie the game.

“They just made plays,” Coach Dan Smrekar said. “Their quarterback was there key. They just kind of ground on us and kept chipping away. I don’t think they did anything different. I think maybe just did it a little better.”

The final score was 28-21, St. Mary’s.
