New Salem-Almont-Glen Ullin and Bismarck High took home several postseason awards following their respective championship games at the 26th Dakota Bowl.
Holsteins head coach Steve Kleinjan earned 9-Man Coach of the Year, while quarterback Evan Henke won Senior Athlete of the Year.
“Nothing bugs him,” teammate Braden Zuroff said of Henke. “In the game he’ll just keep playing and go on. As far as Coach K, Coach K is really good at getting us motivated and getting us going. He breaks down film for us, and we’re prepared every game. He makes sure we’re ready.”
in Class AAA, Bismarck High’s Will Madler and Mark Gibson earned Senior Athlete and Coach of the Year, respectively, but for both of them, the team winning the state championship meant everything.
“It’s a big win for us,” Gibson said. “We were banged up [in the game]. The bottom line is our kids were resilient. When you’re resilient, good things are going to happen, all the way down into the final ticks.”
In Class A, Dickinson Trinity’s Kaden Kuntz won Senior Athlete of the Year.
