State Soccer: Minot uses shootout to win consolation final

Local Sports

Minot girls’ soccer beat the St. Mary’s Saints 3-2 in a shootout to win fifth place at the state tournament on Saturday.

The Majettes lead 1-0 after the first half, but the Saints equalized in the final 10 minutes with a goal from Elizabeth Fedorchak.

In the shootout, Minot keeper Emme Miller denied the very first shot from the Saints. Later in the shootout, Miller trapped an attempt from Abby Kopp to hold the advantage, and Miller took the very next shot for Minot, burying it in the top corner to seal the victory.

On the winner’s bracket, Fargo Davies took the state title over West Fargo Sheyenne 4-1.
