Mandan girls soccer finish regular season with 22 points, look ahead to state qualifier match

A shocking upset has essentially solidified a third place WDA finish for Mandan girls soccer.

The Braves lost to Jamestown 4-2 on Tuesday to close the regular season with 22 points. Minot also has 22, so they just need one point in its last two matches to snag the last automatic bid to state.

That means Mandan will need playmakers like Alonna Allickson to come up big in next week’s WDA Tournament. Allickson almost exclusively played as a lone striker last year, but she’s dropped back into a midfield role, and Coach Weston says the change has paid off.

“It just felt like she could give us something different in the midfield, and create some opportunities for other people up front to score goals,” Weston said. “Her speed can be tough for other midfielders to match and to follow from making those deep runs.”

The WDA Tournament will start next Tuesday in Mandan.
