They say you want to be playing your best baseball down the stretch, and Larks first baseman Matt Warkentin seems to have taken that to heart.
Over the past week, Warkentin has displayed a steady glove over at first base while producing plenty of hits at the dish, including a 9-RBI performance on Thursday. Warkentin says it’s nice to have both his offense and defense heating up at the same time.
“On defense the streaks come in plays,” Warkentin said. “There’ll be maybe three or four games where I hardly have any ground balls or pop-ups, and then there’ll be five games in a row where I just have a ton of action.”
The Larks have eight regular season games remaining on the schedule, and six of them will be at home.
