In the semifinal round of the Region 5 girls basketball tournament Tuesday, Solen and Shiloh Christian emerged with hard-earned victories to advance to the championship game.
Solen held a one point lead over Center-Stanton in the final 24 seconds. The Wildcats had possession of the ball and were looking to set up a final shot, but Solen’s Teyah Uses Arrow stole a pass attempt and converted a transition layup to give Solena 48-45 lead. Center-Stanton got a potential game-tying shot off in time, but it was no good, sending Solen to the championship game with a 48-45 win.
“I was thinking plase do not miss this,” Uses Arrow said on her late steal. “You’re going to make it. I was thinking positive thoughts. I was not going to let this go. When I first grabbed the steal, I just needed to take my time and don’t think of anything and just make the layup.”
Solen will face Shiloh Christian, who beat defending state champion Grant County 40-32 in the other semifinal game. Tip-off is Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
