U-Mary hockey at 28-3-2 has set a dominant tone in its first few months as a program.
The top-ranked Marauders have a pair of goalies in Aaron Nelson and Lance Knudsen who each have a save percentage above 93 percent. Offensively, Alex Flicek, Marshall Tschida and Zach Garrett have been deadly whenever they’re in possession of the puck.
“Early in the year we talked about the face of franchise four years from now and it’s happened right now,” head coach Daniel Huntley said. “It’s Alex Flicek. He’s got seven game-winners. Then our captain Zach Garrett. He’s a playmaker more than he is a goal scorer, so that helps out with everybody else. One of our defenseman Marshall Tschida is up there with [now 41] points. I would say it’s unheard of for a defenseman to be in the top couple for scoring.”
All three players have tallied at least 40 points thus far. Flicek is second in the ACHA Division II with 29 goals.
The Marauders return to the ice Jan. 4 with a road contest at Northern Colorado.
