Shiloh Christian girls basketball defeated Grant County 65-56 on Monday to win the District 9 tournament.
Amber Stevahn led all scorers with 23 points, and Paige Murray added 17 points for the Skyhawks (21-0).
Two more Region 5 tournament spots were up for grabs in the earlier games. Solen defeated New Salem-Almont 68-51.
After that contest, the region qualifier between Flasher and Standing Rock came down to the final moments.
Standing Rock’s Syanne Young Bird hit a three-pointer to put the Warriors up 49-46 late in the fourth quarter.
Flasher’s Faith Marion then drew a foul on the other end and hit both free throws to cut the Bulldogs’ deficit to just one point.
In the final minute, Standing Rock shed as much time off the clock as possible before trying a three-pointer, but the shot was off target.
Flasher collected the rebound and broke the press defense with three quick passes. The final pass found Tymber Boldt wide open underneath the hoop, and she scored the go-ahead layup with three seconds left.
Standing Rock attempted a last-second heave, but the shot went off the top of the backboard, giving Flasher the 50-49 win.
Shiloh Christian, Grant County, Flasher and Solen will represent District 9 in next week’s Region 5 Tournament.
