U-Mary tennis exceeding expectations in Northern Sun play

National Sports

The Northern Sun preseason coaches’ poll had U-Mary tennis finishing 10th in the 12-team conference. From day one of this season, the Marauders have been proving them wrong.

The Marauders currently sit in fourth place with a 6-3 conference record, and they’ve won seven of their last eight matches.

Before Saturday’s loss to MSU-Moorhead, Tasha Dembo, Yusra Hegy and Jamie Stoppler had all gone 4-0 in singles play this month.

With just seven athletes on the team, it’s been easy to figure out the best combinations for their doubles play.

“The doubles are playing really well,” head coach Vida Saliendra said. “There’s chemistry among all the athletes, so they play better with certain partners. So far, I think the 1 through 3 are playing really well.”

The Marauders next play Duluth on March 30.
