Minot girls’ soccer defeated St. Mary’s in the WDA Tournament Championship on Thursday, and Century and Mandan each won their games to punch their tickets to the state tournament.
Minot captain Allison Lepp scored a first half goal with a powerful free kick from just outside the box, and that was the only goal of the game, resulting in a 1-0 championship for Minot.
Despite the loss, St. Mary’s will still be in next week’s state tournament.
The last two tickets to state were decided between two loser-out games. First, Mandan unleashed four goals on Jamestown to win 4-0 and earn a state berth, and Century held off Bismarck 1-0 for the final spot.
Minot will be the West’s top seed in next week’s tournament, with St. Mary’s as the number two seed, Century as the three, and Mandan as the four seed.
