WDA Softball: Bismarck sweeps Mandan to stay on pace for WDA title

Bismarck High softball increased its winning streak to 13 games Tuesday with a sweep of Mandan on Tuesday night.

The Demons battled back from a two-run deficit twice to earn a 6-5 win in game one.

With Mandan leading 5-3 in the sixth, Bismarck’s Emma Barta hit a line drive into center. Outfield Megan Zander attempted a diving catch but the ball went under her glove and rolled all the way to the wall, allowing Barta to round the bases for an inside-the-park home run.

With Mandan still ahead 5-4 going into the bottom of the seventh, Bismarck responded by loading the bases with no outs. The Demons then drew a walk to bring in the tying run.

In the next at-bat, the Demons hit a fly ball to left. Zander caught it for the out and then fired home as the Demons tried to tag for the winning run. The ball arrived in time to Sydney Gustavsson, but the ball bounced out of her glove before she could tag the runner out, thus giving Bismarck a 6-5 walk-off win.

The Demons then took game two by a score of 11-1.

Bismarck and Century each still have two conference losses on the season. The two teams will face off Friday.
