Tuesday’s PM Forecast Update 9/5

Weather Blog
From the KX Storm Center:
It is breezy with temperatures below average for this time of the year. Highs today will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s with a moderate to strong wind out of the NW 10-20mph G30. Needless to say, it has been cool & breezy today. This evening winds calm down with temps continuing to fall, under mostly clear skies. This will set us up for a little bit of radiation cooling.
Night time temperature falls are related to cloud cover, wind strength & humidity. After sunset, we no longer get incoming, solar radiation. Instead, the Earth’s surface is emitting its own (infrared) radiation. On cloudy nights, this infrared radiation is absorbed by clouds and helps keep us a little warmer. Also, when there is even a light breeze cooler air is mixed in with warmer surrounding air. Maximum cooling occurs under clear skies, light winds & dry conditions.
That combination is exactly what we are looking at tonight. So, expect temps to fall into the mid to upper 30s and lower 40s. Patchy frost is possible for some and it will be a little chilly as we start the day tomorrow. That being said, through the end of the work week, there will be a gradualy warming trend that will bring our high temps back into the upper 80s with a few 90s by Saturday & Sunday. More good news is that winds will stay light through the next few days, too. There is a broad ridge of high pressure that will remain anchored over the Dakotas & Northern Plains Wednesday/Thursday. By Friday/Saturday, this high will move East, over the Great Lakes region & Northeast U.S. This will allow winds to pick up and our temperatures to level off a bit.

Through the next 7days, there will be little to no chance of rain or risk of severe weather.

Tonight, mostly clear & a little chilly with calming winds. Lows in the 30s & 40s with a North/West wind 2-10mph, calming.

Wednesday will bring more sunshine, a few clouds and slightly warmer temperatures. Highs in the 70s with a few 80s (West) and a NW/SE wind 2-12mph.

Wednesday night, mostly clear and a little cool. Lows in the 40s with a few 50s and a SE/SW wind 2-10mph.

Thursday, plenty of sunshine and warm. Highs in the 80s with a SW/NE wind 2-12mph.

Thursday night, mostly clear with seasonable temps. Lows in the 40s & 50s with an East/SE wind 2-10mph.
