Wednesday’s PM Forecast Update 10/4

Weather Blog

From the KX Storm Center:
After a chilly start, temps stayed well below average (avg highs 61-64) for this time of the year. Early clouds did move out & sunshine continued through the rest of the day. A ridge of high pressure extends across the Dakotas today and will mostly keep rain chances out of the forecast. The only exception will be tonight. A few showers will move into Southwest ND before fizzling out. So, a few of us will be getting a little wet. Elsewhere, it will stay mostly clear to partly cloudy with temps falling well into the 30s and to near freezing for some. So, AM frost will be possible again, tomorrow. The good news is that through the next several days, a warm front will move across the state Friday/Saturday. This front may bring a few showers.
Along with gradually warming temps through the end of the work week, highs will also get bumped well into the 60s (near & above average) as we wrap up the work week and go into the weekend. On the down side, this warm up will not last long. A cold front, associated with this same weekend system will bring another big change in temps. There will be a sharp drop with daytime highs falling through the 60s, 50s and into the 40s by Tuesday/Wednesday. At the same time, winds will pick up and become windy by Saturday. Sunday & Monday wind speeds will start to taper off and by Tuesday it will still be a little breezy.
Through the next 7days, there will be a few chances for rain with low totals and showers becoming scattered, at best. Thunderstorms will be few and far between with no risk of severe weather at this point. Next week, another system will bring more precip chances with some mix/snow possible. It is too far down the road to nail down any specifics, but it doesn’t look like much if any. One of the long range models shows between a dusting & 1″ for much of the area.

Tonight, mostly clear and chilly with patchy frost possible. A few light showers are not out of the question for SW ND. Lows in the 30s with a few 40s and a SE/NE wind 2-10mph.

Thursday, after a sunny start, a few more clouds will roll in and it will still be cool with a few hit & miss showers, early. Highs in the 50s with a few 60s and a NE/North wind 2-12mph. 20% chance of rain.

Thursday night, partly cloudy and still chilly. Lows in the 30s & 40s with a light wind out of the NE/South, 1-8mph.

Friday will bring a few more clouds with a little warming. Highs in the 50s & 60s with a SW/West wind 5-15mph G20.

Friday night, mostly clear and not as chilly. Lows in the 40s with a SW/West wind 2-10mph.
